2010: Benjamin Stone, Neha Bansal, Janice Tiao

Internships in 2009, 2008

Administrative Intern, Fall 2006- Ilana Raskind

Ilana joined the Kokrobitey family in the fall of 2006 after graduating from Vassar College with a degree in Comparative Religion. Ilana will be working with the Kokrobitey team until the fall of 2007 on a variety of projects helping the Institute transition its focus from purely education to incorporate programs supporting sustainable development through the preservation of culture, arts and environment.

Design Intern, fall 2002- Brian Herron

An architecture student of the University of Edinburgh, Brian joined Kokrobitey as an intern in the fall of 2002 to help develop the newly constructed Design Center and gain ‘hands on’ design and construction experience. Brian was recommended to Kokrobitey by the Institute’s Architect, Alero Olympio and during his four-month placement worked using principles of design established at Kokrobitey by Ms. Olympio. Principle of these was the use of natural materials to achieve striking, yet functional designs. Brian achieved this, creating a series of stunning chairs, tables and work surfaces within the Design center, all built in cooperation with local craftsmen from local materials.

Artist in Residence Internship, summer 1999- Anna Shapiro

Anna came to Kokrobitey in 1999 when a recent graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design to take up an internship placement within the Design Center. Referred to the Institute by her Professor, Ellen Driscoll, Anna was a gifted artist who joined the Institute for nearly a year. During her placement, as well as completing her own study, Anna taught on High School programs and at the summer ‘Kiddie’ Camps where she taught batik, paper making and costume design. In Fall 2002, Anna was specially invited back to work on a silk screening project within the Design Center. Her work was outstanding, with a particular highlight the silkscreen design cloth produced to present to the world-renowned dancer Ms. Judith Jamison of the Alvin Ailey dance company.
