Kokrobitey Institute offers short-term (2-3 weeks) and long-term (semester long) residential education programs in Art and Design, Environmental Studies, History, Culture and Education for High School, Undergraduate and Graduate students. Programs take place throughout the year and run alongside long-term development projects and internships.

Kokrobitey Institute offers a unique learning environment for students and faculty. Program schedules are multidisciplinary, designed to allow students to discover and wrestle questions of identity, culture and difference, by taking part in a range of activities. Each program combines academic learning in small seminar style classes; cultural arts workshops; field trips and community service, with the conscious living of daily life in a different culture.

Cultural arts at Kokrobitey Institute are seen as a means of intellectual and social expression and are a core element of each program. During a program, arts sessions may include dance, drumming, writing, painting and silkscreen techniques, all fostering a deeper understanding of the richness of Ghanaian culture.

Field trips are scheduled to take place every 3-4 days during each program and relate to the specific area of study. Trips introduce students to the richly diverse natural, political and social history of the region. Site visits include Kakum National Park, traditional regional markets such as Makola in Accra; Aburi Botanical Gardens; Kumasi, the center of the Ashanti Kingdom; historical monuments including the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Black Star Square in Accra and the fifteenth century slave forts and castles of Cape Coast.

Community Service projects are also part of every schedule, allowing students to participate in, and contribute to, the wider community while at Kokrobitey. Recent projects have included painting the Kokrobitey Village School and aiding literacy training programs for Institute staff and adults in the village of Kokrobitey.
