Program: In-house Leadership Team training
Detail: The Institute provided full board, accommodation and training facilities for Pioneer Aluminum training staff. The training was particularly successful, attributed by the Managing Director of Pioneer to the seclusion and tranquility of the campus, which allowed participants to focus on the program and facilitated team building.

 

Fulbright-Hays Group from the Harambee Center

Program: Connecting American Educators with the Peoples and Culture of Ghana
Detail: Kokrobitey Institute developed a program for American educators in the Fulbright-Hays Group from the Harambee Centre. The program introduced Ghanaian culture with educational workshops on integrating Africa into American curricula. Field trips to Kakum Rainforest, Cape Coast Castle and Accra monuments along with cultural arts sessions were included with the schedule.

 

Student and Youth Travel Organization (SYTO), Ghana

Date: 28-29 June 2003
Program: Cultural Arts Workshop
Detail: An intensive two-day cultural arts program. Local performers and drum and dance teachers joined Institute faculty for the program, with the twelve participants each completing 6 hours of lessons per day. Full board and accommodation were provided at the Institute.

 

American Peace Corps in Ghana

Program: In-house training for small enterprise development
Detail: The Institute provided access to all campus facilities, seminar room, accommodation and full board to the Peace Corps for an in-house training program.

 

Ghana-India Cultural Festival hosted by the Busia Foundation International

Date: 19 April 2002
Program: One day dance workshop
Detail: Kokrobitey Institute provided facilities for a one-day workshop hosted by Professor Abena Busia on behalf of the Busia Foundation International. Part of a Ghana-India cultural festival, the one-day dance workshop for dancers from Shilparamam, India was organized by the Institute to allow the sharing of traditional dances. During the day the Shilparamam dancers presented traditional loom dancers to the Kokrobitey community, took part in Ghanaian traditional dances and enjoyed a meal of traditional Ghanaian foods.

Reception for Judith Jamison and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre Company

Program: A reception and brunch in honor of the arrival of Judith Jamison and the
Alvin Ailey Company in Ghana
Detail: AAAG contacted Kokrobitey Institute in their search for a unique venue at which to host a very special reception for Judith Jamison and the Alvin Ailey dance theatre company. The Institute organized for the Kokrobitey Children’s Dance Group to greet the party; for an opening libation by the village elders; and for performances during the day by the village cultural group. Guests were served with a traditional style four-course brunch cooked on campus and served with a selection of fresh fruit punches. Ms. Jamison was presented with a specially designed fabric created by a Kokrobitey intern in the design centre.


Teaching Training Institute sponsored by the Association of Independent Schools, Africa (AISA)

Program: A conference to explore ways of understanding traditional and contemporary African society to create vehicles for accessing the information about Africa, with the goal of broadening the baseline of information for disciplines taught.
Detail: The Institute, working in conjunction with the Association of Independent Schools, organized the conference for twenty-six teachers from seven countries across Africa. Field trips and sessions in Ghanaian cultural arts were integrated with formal workshops in curriculum development and preparation of teaching plans. As a result of the Institute, an action plan for integrating resources from Africa was prepared and circulated to AISA members.
