RESOURCEFULLY DESIGNED

We create unique contemporary design objects, furniture, lighting, clothing, jewellery, & more using primarily recycled & natural materials like denim, glass bottles, & laterite (red earth). Along with creating our line of products, we do custom interior projects, collaborate with independent designers on collections, and develop products for corporate partners.

GLASS

The Kokrobitey Glass Shop exemplifies our commitment to resourceful design and identifying waste as material for product development. In this workshop space, we transform recycled glass into both functional and artisanal objects through a variety of hot and cold working processes. Over the years we have upgraded our equipment to include a tile saw, grinding and polishing machine, oxygen-gas hot torch, and a gas-fired kiln.

Our studio enables production style glass-making, cutting bottles and polishing them to make drinking glasses and other kitchen wares. We also design and create unique artworks, through multi-stage processes of slumping and fusing glass to make plates, bowls, and sculptural pieces.

Education is at the heart of all we do at Kokrobitey, and our work in the glass shop is no exception. We train local apprentices in all aspects of the glass-making process. Our trainings are conducted by glass artist-professionals, including lectures on critical temperatures and the scientific processes of glass heating and cooling, as well as technical training on all of the equipment and machinery in the shop. Our shop is one of the only glass studios in Ghana with this kind of specialized equipment and staff expertise.
